Wellness Just For Puppy Dog Treats

Just adopted a puppy yesterday.?

It is a 4 month old lab/boxer/pitbull mix. It is a female. I want to know where to start training it and what to start on first. It is a little shy and not that confident yet.

Get her used to walking on a leash and I think housebreaking should be one of the first things you start training her on. My dog chews rawhide bones, she loves them and they’re digestible and fun to chew.
Here are some housebreaking tips that worked very well for me.
I have a toy poodle and she was housebroken in 17 days. Here is my method:

Start by taking puppy outside every 1-2 hours. Open the door and emphasize the word outside so puppy becomes familar with it. Say, “Outside. Do you have to go outside” repeat this until you’re out there then once your out there tell puppy to “Go peepee or Go poopie” Repeat this until the puppy goes then say “Good girl/boy…peepee outside or poopie outside” (whichever he does) Repeat it with lots of praise.

I trained my dog without any crate, I just kept a watchful eye on her at ALL TIMES and if I caught her in the middle of squatting to pee, I’d grab her mid-pee and say in a stern voice, “No…Peepee outside”. As I brought her outside, I’d repeat it then put her in the grass and repeat it again, “Peepee outside”. When she finishes peeing outside, say “Good girl/boy…peepee outside” Keep repeating the words “Peepee outside or Poopie outside” or whatever words you want to use for doing his business. Then praise, praise, praise. No treats, just lots of love and praise. Don’t scold for accidents, just praise when he gets it right. If he doesn’t have an occasional accident he won’t know what the wrong behavior is.

After a week or two of this she pretty much had the hang of it, but still occasionally had an accident. I put a bell near the door and when I said “Outside,” I’d ring the bell and a few weeks later, she’d ring the bell herself and when I heard the sound I’d say “You have to go outside.” She wags her tail and gets excited and rings the bell again and I’d take her outside. After 17 days, no more accidents. She rings the bell almost every time she has to go. Sometimes she’ll stand on her hind legs and scratch at my legs to let me know she has to go outside.
