Cat diarrhea after food change?
Re-hi, 3 week ago, I’ve changed my cat’s food from Science Diet Indoor Mature to Natural Balance. It induced diarrhea for 2 week and he’s gradually getting more normal stools. This is the 3rd week and it’s 90% normal hard stools mixed w/ some loose mucus-like stools at the end. It is accompanied with foul odor. Is it normal? The food was introduced in a span of five days and I’m think my cat does not agree with Natural Balance or Wellness Core(vomited). I have Wellness canned food but I don’t want to feed him until he’s stools are completely back to normal+my cat isn’t too crazy about canned food, he would eat like once oz. out of the 3 oz. can and leave the rest. Any suggestion? I want him to get the best nutrition for optimal health.
yes, it’s normal for the cat’s stool’s to be irregular after a change of diet. you did right by mixing the two, but could have done it over a 2 week period. either way, some diarrhea is going to happen. it’s kind of like humans. i would get an upset stomach if i suddenly ate something i’ve never had before. he should get back to normal soon. if you still see trouble with this type of food or he isn’t liking it, consult with your vet before switching again. good luck!!!
