What are your thoughts when you are asked to host or attend a “home party” – like Arbonne, Tupperware, ect.
Do you like going to these sorts of things, where your friend invites you all over to hear a presentation about the products and buy them, that sort of thing…
What do people think of these? Are they tacky, or can they be fun? What is your experience?
Be honest!
I personally think that if its a good product and if I have a little extra money to spare, I’ll go. I won’t go to any makeup or wellness type parties, because I already use something I love- but jewelry, cleaning stuff, candles- I’d go to that. But discounts are always a plus, and games.
BUT, if there is an overly pushy sales rep that’s a turn off… I do respect that this is their job, though, I’ve been down that road. But pushy is never ok!!
Well I am not keen on going to these sorts of things and I have had a couple of occasions where the invitation is done in a sneaky way. Like the friend may ring up and say “What are you doing next Wednesday”? and I might say “Nothing – Why?” and then well I’m having a tupperware (whatever party) and then I’m thinking Sh….t!!! and find it hard to back out and yes the expectation is to spend money in return for all the little sandwiches or whatever the host prepares. Like you are put in the position where you sort of “owe” the host. So I just don’t think it is ethical to sort of trap people into agreeing to attend. There are better ways of inviting a friend to something like that. Like say I’m putting on a tupperware party for so and so and if that is your thing just ring back and let me know if you want to come to give the other person an easy way out.
These “parties” can be fun though but best if there is stuff there that really interests you.
