Weight Loss During Pregnancy
HELP. I lots of need answers! Weight loss during pregnancy!?
I was overweight/obese before I became pregnant. I am now 28 weeks pregnant with my first child and I have only gained 11 pounds since I’ve been pregnant. My doctor told me if I lose any more weight by my next appointment (two weeks from today),she will have to check my calories and make sure I’m eating enough.
When I was about 10 weeks pregnant, I had ABSOLUTELY NO appetite and I was always nauseated. A hot dog did NOT taste like a hot dog and I lost weight back then. But today, my appetite is FINALLY picking back up… VERY SLOWLY. And when I do eat when I am hungry (which is not often), I get full too fast, even when eat small meals! I take prenatal vitamins every day. I am worried because my weight keeps going up and then down & I’ve lost another pound today since the last time I saw my doctor (4 days ago!) The past 2 months I’ve been losing about 1 1/2 lbs every other week, gaining it back, then losing it again.
Don’t worry. Your baby will always take exactly what it needs from you. Your weight loss is not an indicator that baby is not thriving. Many women who start out overweight end up losing weight not only because of being sick, but also because they are making an effort to eat more appropriately, healthier foods, more appropriate portions, etc.
As long as your uterine measurements are on track, and you probably had an ultrasound at some point where they took the baby’s measurements and found it was normal, then there is really very little to worry about.
I started my last pregnancy overweight. I lost weight in the first two trimesters, and only ended up gaining less than 15 lbs altogether, and baby was just fine.
Keep taking those prenatals, and eat small, protein loaded snacks like Power Bars, etc.
