Tighten Skin After Weight Loss Naturally

How far can the body go with tightening the skin naturally around the abdomen after weight loss?

I currently weigh 227 pounds and am progressing towards a goal weight of between 145-160. How terrible of a time will I have with loose skin around my abdomen? I see people who get gastric bypass and am appalled by the excess skin they have and terrified that I’ll look like that (of course these people weighed a considerable amount more than I do before surgery, but it’s still scary to see!) I am only doing about 50 crunches a day along with one hour a day of exercising to meet my goal weight over a span of a year. I’ve cut my calories I ingest down to 1,200 a day as well. It has very little to do with how you lose the weight and more to do with your age and how much your skin has stretched. Do you have stretch marks around your middle? Skin with stretch marks is permanently compromised and will not shrink back all the way on its own no matter what you do. The more stretch marks you have, the less it will tighten back up on its own. It’s an unfortunate fact of life. However, since you’re trying to lose less than 100 pounds it shouldn’t be too big of a problem for you. Also, the younger you are, the more elastic your skin is. Being young helps.

Also, the loose skin problem happens no matter how you lose the weight. I went from 370 to 170 in the two years after gastric-bypass surgery and I have extra skin over my torso, upper arms and thighs. My boyfriend went from 375 to 230 over the course of two and a half years doing nothing but diet and exercise and he has the exact same problem in his belly. Being male, he was able to fill the stretched skin in his arms and legs back out with muscle.

Loose skin isn’t pretty, but don’t let it deter you from losing weight. The health benefits of losing the weight outweigh the cosmetic results. Plus, plastic surgery can fix the skin problem – only losing weight will improve your health.
