No Weight Loss On Atkins Induction
How will sugar and antibiotics affect the Atkins diet?
I’ve been on the atkins diet for a about a week and a half, I’ve been extremely watchful of my carb intake and sugar as well. Drinking only water, eating only meat, cheese, salads and sauces with no sugar or carbs (mustard and hot sauce) I think I’ve been good.
The other night I developed a sinus infection and took a cough drop without realizing it’s sugar content. The next day I went to the Dr. and was prescribed an antibiotic: amox-clav. That was about 3 days ago and my weight loss stopped. It may be just a coincidence but if these pills are gonna void the diet I might as well enjoy a pizza or two during the next week before picking back up the induction. Also, just curious what affect little bit of sugar like that would have while on atkins. Thanks.
If you’re on Induction every little bit of non-low carbohydrate food counts. If that cough drop contained a lot of sugar/carbs then it could have a major effect on your Atkins weight loss,stagnant weight loss for a few days or weight gain. Whatever you do DO NOT get off the band wagon now, if you eat pizza you risk both not going into Ketosis and gaining back what you have worked so hard to lose plus more. Your body is now starved for carbs and will cling on to any carbs you feed it. The antibiotics shouldn’t affect your weight loss. You might have hit a plateau, some vigorous cardio should get you back on track once you are feeling better until then you should try to eat as many low carb veggies and berries as you can. Try not to stay on induction too long, excessive meat and cheese can effect normal organ function. Once youre done Induction almost everything except bread, pasta and sugary foods in moderation will still lead to weight loss. Good luck!
